We hope to raise $10,000 to support our coverage of the 2022 Medal of Honor Celebration. You can support our coverage here.

University of Tennessee students interview Medal of Honor Recipient Leroy Petry at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

The Medal of Honor Project is a student-led video production project that is part of Land Grant Films and supported by the School of Journalism and Electronic Media at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. We are launching a VolStarter crowdfunding campaign to help us properly document the Medal of Honor Celebration coming to Knoxville in September. The funds we receive will help us purchase equipment and resources needed to do this project justice. This includes hard-drives, portable teleprompters, specialty equipment, and transportation needs. All of which will add to the production value of our project and outreach.

The Medal of Honor Project is a continuation of our students’ coverage of the 2014 Medal of Honor Convention, which is the last time the Medal of Honor Convention visited Knoxville. Even though it is the same convention, we are a a new group of University of Tennessee students and both our community and the Medal of Honor Society has changed. With the help of the professors involved in the last convention, Dr. Nick Geidner and Clinton Elmore, we hope to improve the project.

Our team —ranging from freshmen to graduate students — will be providing behind the scenes coverage of the Medal of Honor Convention, interviews with Medal of Honor recipients, volunteers, organizers, invited guest, and provide daily updates of the convention. The project will not only benefit the students involved by giving them once-in-a-lifetime, hands-on experience in video production, but will benefit the growing veteran community on the University of Tennessee campus. In documenting the convention, we hope to not only highlight the Medal of Honor recipients, but also highlight Knoxville, as an ideal location for veterans to call home.

Please consider giving today. For questions or comments, please email Medal of Honor project director and UT journalism professor Nick Geidner at ngeidner@utk.edu.
